Thanks to this sweet family! Cutie-paw-tooties, all three of them. Braving the winter weather was worth it. We had enough of a break in the rain to get some great shots outside. Little Felix will be so much bigger come summer, I know his mama is happy to have photos of him as he is right now. :)

I just stumbled across these images of Maggie. During the bustle of summer portrait sessions sometimes I can forget to blog even the sweetest of images. I'm sure this little one could keep us all entertained with a whole blog to herself. Looking over my portfolio yesterday I was literally cooing at my computer when I saw these. Giving Back: Celebrating Adoptive and Foster Families

I was invited to volunteer at a National Adoption Day celebration honoring adoptive and foster families this fall and I'm planning to make my participation an annual affair. Organized by the Boys and Girls Aid, kids and families enjoyed clowns, magicians, free medical checkups and a free professional portrait by me!

Thanks to all the families who trusted me to photograph them. Your gift of a loving home is immeasurable and strengthens our entire community.

"Are you guys brother sister?" I asked.

"Yep, we're twins!" the puppy dog replied with a loving grin and threw his around her.

I don't normally work with a backdrop but really like the way these turned out and will likely use this setup through the winter as the weather keeps us indoors.

She was very present, open for anything and eager albeit a tad unsure about her plans for the next few years. I love photographing people at such an important age, where the world is wide open and some beautiful photos may be just the boost you need to take it all on.

Here's some of my favorites from Melissa and Mark's wedding.

This hanger was a cute detail.

This church has been important to Mark's family for generations.

His great grandparents are buried in the surrounding cemetery.

The reception was held a short drive away at the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove, Oregon.

You can't go wrong with a few props to keep the kiddos busy. :)

I could do a whole post of just mustachio shots but this one takes the cake. She was just sitting at an empty table goofing around by herself. I love how unselfconscious kids are.

This sweet couple stole my heart! Both are pastors and obviously full of life.

Not every wedding has their own AC/DC cover band to end the night with!

Wow, these guys kicked the party right up!

This was a great wedding to shoot. The sun and the smiles were out in full force!

Girls got ready at the Heathman Hotel downtown Portland first

and then everyone met up at one of my favorite venues (and i swear they don't pay me to say that) hoyt arboretum. I love shooting here because it's a rural feel right in the city.

these two love birds met in mexico, fell in love, hired me and had the sweetest bilingual ceremony i've ever attended. the aqua riva restaurant and venue is right near portland's city center on macadam.

very little spanish is spoken by her family and very little english by his but the love and support for these two was palpable all night.

the holy rosary church is a beautiful catholic church great for weddings in downtown portland.

i kept trying to get this little one to smile at me. nope. he never did! and his mom, behind him, thought it was hilarious. but i love the way this turned out.

i couldn't have come up with this if i tried. these guys were awesome!

i studied spanish in ecuador back in my college days and my friend, lauren, had the bright idea that we needed to take a reunion trip this year. she's so smart. she left her two kiddos with her amazing husband for almost 2 weeks an we tromped around with our backpacks like we were 21 again. i don't post personal photos very often on this blog but travel is a big part of who i am and why i love photography so much. i hope you like them.

even my camera takes bad photos when you hand it to some tourist on the top of a mountain! geeez.

jason and stacey are both awesome people who work with kids and are so happy to have adopted their first child: son, braxton. they wanted to document his first year with a portrait session and some of our mutual friends bought this family portrait session for them as a gift (photography makes a great pregnancy or baby shower gift!) this family was so happy and loving, i really enjoyed frolicking in the sun with them, and their little one has the most scrumptious smile. welcome, braxton!

this country wedding was at the heritage house in aurora, oregon on a beautiful day in july. this is a great wedding venue! a spacious homespun family farm and garden surrounded by a nut orchard. orchards are so photogenic! i went to college with these two love birds so the night was extra fun for me, photographing old friends.

cora and zack had a romantic garden wedding at the fairgate inn which is a gorgeous renovated home in camas washington. they were a sweet couple and just adorable together. they planned for a 7 hour photography package and we had time to capture their wedding from beginning to end. there are so many amazing wedding pictures (more than 700!) i had trouble narrowing it to my usual 10 or 12. here's my favorite 24. congratulations on your wedding cora and zack!

oregon country wedding at the dalles ranch

this was my first time working at the dalles ranch and I wholeheartedly believe the miles of dusty gravel roads are worth it! The Dalles Ranch is a spectacular 23 person luxury cabin on a remote lake overlooking Mt. Hood and they do a smash up job hosting a wedding. close family and wedding party stayed in comfortable resort style rooms and guests who didn't want to drive back, camped nearby. nice choice of venue and congratulations kellie and brian!

for the very first time i covered an outside wedding ceremony where ... and i know this is surprising cause we live in oregon... but it rained. umbrella worthy rain. and despite the heroic effort of a gentleman who followed me around with an umbrella the whole ceremony, my cameras got so wet! thankfully they dried just fine and i got some great shots because the guests and bride and groom smiled through the whole thing. it was really beautiful! and actually made the whole day more fun! who doesn't like a little rain on their wedding day? congratulations mallika and aaron! xoxo sara

oh oh oh this is my favorite portrait session i've done all year. identical honey suckle, monkey pumpkins. i could just eat them up. there were moments while editing out almost 100 photos where one of them is looking weird or horribly confused or angry while the other one cooed at me, when i questioned whether twins were really my bag. decidedly outside of my typical work i branched out into the portland fashion scene recently. i'm not a fashion photographer, although i do love shopping and have an overflowing closet, but when i was approached to do this shoot i couldn't resist. amy, owner/designer of lux jewelry, asked me to capture the flare of this line that was featured at the crown room's monthly Massive fashion show/dance party. Amy's theme for the feather and metal clad pieces was "maria antoinette goes 80's punk".

she's really cool. and so is her jewelry. here are my favorite shots.

we shot this engagement session at the japanese gardens on one of those summer days that april gave us this year. these two were lots of fun and kept cracking me up. it was easy for me to catch them having a good time and the gardens were so beautiful it really wasn't too much work for me! in order to have some portraits with their dog we walked around the rose garden beforehand. their wedding is planned for this summer at a vineyard outside of mcminnville. i'm looking forward to that wedding for sure! :)

i got to spend 3 week this march in the states of oaxaca and veracruz, mexico. beautiful, kicking, vibrant places to visit and photograph. i've been sifting through and editing my photos as i have time between jobs and am finally getting some final images ready to blog about.

toward the end of my stay i was welcomed into the family home of my friend, coca, who i work with in PDX and who was visiting her family during the same week down in the humid port city, veracruz. i took these portraits of her nieces and nephews as a thank you for their hospitality. !mil gracias a la familia higa mora! !que lindos nietos tienen!
